County Receives Budget Presentation Award for Annual Budget Ending FY 2016

The Government Finance Officers Association (GFOA) of the United States and Canada recently announced that the County Board of Commissioners were awarded the GFOA's Distinguished Budget Presentation Award for its annual budget ending Fiscal Year 2016.

The award represents a noteworthy achievement by Camden County as it reflects the commitment of the Board of County Commissioners and staff to meet the highest principles of government budgeting. Nationally recognized guidelines for effective budget presentation had to be fulfilled in order for Camden County to receive this budget award. These guidelines are designed to assess how well Camden County’s budget serves as a policy document; a financial plan; an operations guide; and a communications device. Budget documents must be rated “proficient” in all four categories, including the fourteen mandatory criteria within those categories, to receive the award. When a Distinguished Budget Presentation Award is granted to a government organization, a Certificate of Recognition for Budget Presentation is also presented to the individual or department designated as being primarily responsible for having achieved the award. The Camden County Board of Commissioners would like to thank the Department of Finance and Budget for all their efforts in making this recognition possible. Special appreciation is also given to Assistant Finance Director Nancy Gonzalez for her hard work and dedication to the final presentation.

County Administrator Steve Howard commented that he is “exceptionally pleased with the accomplishments of the Finance and Budget Department under Mike Fender’s direction and guidance. His unrelenting endeavor for excellence is to be commended.” The GFOA is a major professional association servicing the needs of 18,300 appointed and elected local, state, and provincial-level government officials and other finance practitioners. It provides top quality publications, training programs, services, and products designed to enhance the skills and performance of those responsible for government finance policy and management. The GFOA’s Distinguished Budget Presentation Awards Program is the only national awards program in governmental budgeting.
