The Mission of the Transportation Services Department is to provide cost-effective and efficient regional transportation services for employment, medical, and public service needs within the ten counties of the Coastal Georgia region.
Coastal Regional Coaches is part of the regional rural public transit program that provides general public transit service in the Georgia counties of Bryan, Bulloch, Camden, Chatham, Effingham, Glynn, Liberty, Long, McIntosh, and Screven. This service is available to anyone, for any purpose, and to any destination in the coastal region. Fares are very affordable and vary with different itineraries.
The Coordinated Transportation Department continues to provide coordinated human service and rural public transit across 10 counties and 35 municipalities within the coastal region. Counties serviced by the regional program include Bryan, Bulloch, Camden, Chatham, Effingham, Glynn, Liberty, Long, McIntosh, and Screven counties and the respective municipalities..
The Coastal Regional Coaches operates a system of 62 buses and covers a service area of over 5,100 square miles. County boundaries are virtually eliminated under this program allowing passengers to travel regionally to accommodate their trip purpose.
Coastal Regional Coaches is a demand-response, advance-reservation regional rural public transit program that coordinates human services transportation and private contract service on one fleet of vehicles. This generates efficiencies such as better utilization of resources and expansion of transportation option. Travel times are Monday through Friday from 7:00 a.m. until 5:00 p.m.
Since the beginning of the transit program in 2009, the Commission has been committed to the delivery of a balanced, dependable and efficient service. That commitment provides safe and available transit service for regional, rural public passengers, the Department of Human Services' client base, as well as the purchase of service contract passenger. This balanced approach provides for an efficient system and allows for best utilization of resources.
The safety of the passenger is of great importance to the Commission and to confirm that effort all buses are inspected annually, all are camera equipped and drivers trained.
The fare for public transit ridership on Coastal Regional Coaches is $5 one-way ($10 round-trip) within the passenger's county of residence or point of origin. Use this map to calculate how many county lines you will have to cross to get to your destination. The fare per rider is $5 per boarding (one-way) within the county of residence. A round trip fare is $6. For travel outside the county of residence, the fare will vary based on the number of counties traveled.
