[ARCHIVED] Order Declaring Judicial Emergency

WHEREAS, based upon information received from the Clerk of Superior Court of Camden County there has been a positive test for Covid-19 (Corona virus) reported among personnel within the Camden County Courthouse;

WHEREAS, it has been recommended by the CDC, Georgia Department of Health and the Camden County Sheriff that the Camden County Courthouse be closed temporarily to protect the health and well-being of courthouse employees and the general public having business within the courthouse, pursuant to O.C.G.A. §§ 38-3-60(2)(B);

WHEREAS, IT HAS BEEN DETERMINED that said public health emergency substantially endangers or infringes upon the normal functioning of the courthouse and there is an immediate need to temporarily close the courthouse to normal operations during which time the courthouse shall be thoroughly cleaned and sanitized pursuant to federal and state guidelines;

Therefore, pursuant to O.C.G.A.  § 38-3-61, the Honorable Chief Judge Stephen G. Scarlett, Sr. of the Superior Court of Camden County, Brunswick Judicial Circuit DOES HEREBY ORDER AND DECLARE the existence of a Judicial Emergency in Camden County, the nature of this emergency is the potential spread of Covid-19 throughout the courthouse and to the general public having business within the courthouse.

Accordingly, IT IS ORDERED that the Camden County Courthouse shall be closed from 9:00 a.m. on October 19, 2020 until 9:00 a.m. on October 20, 2020, when it shall reopen for business. This temporary closure will make access to the office of the Clerk of the Superior Court, Magistrate Court and Probate Court impossible for the duration of said closure; thus, it is FURTHER ORDERED that anyone having courthouse business that requires access to these courts shall call the following numbers and will be directed accordingly:

Superior Court Clerk's Office:    (912) 576-5631

Magistrate Court Clerk's Office:    (912) 576-5658

Probate Court Clerk's Office:    (912) 576-3785

IT IS ORDERED that the Sheriff of Camden County shall post this Order on his public notification site and at the entrance to the courthouse, and the Clerk shall post this on her public notification site.

IT IS FURTHER ORDERED that the undersigned shall immediately notify and serve Chief Justice Harold D. Melton of the Supreme Court with a copy of this Order, such service to be accomplished via email to Tee Barnes, the Clerk of the Supreme Court of Georgia, at barnest @ gasupreme.us;

IT IS FURTHER ORDERED that the undersigned shall immediately notify and serve a copy of the order on the judges and clerk of all courts sitting within Camden County and on the clerks of the Georgia Court of Appeals and the Georgia Supreme Court, such service to be accomplished through reasonable means to assure expeditious receipt; and

IT IS FURTHER ORDERED that the undersigned shall give notice of the issuance of this Order to any affected parties, their counsel, and the public.
