At their November 2, 2021, regular meeting, the Camden County Board of Commissioners authorized approval to apply for the Georgia Public Safety Officials and First Responders Supplement Grant distributed by the Georgia Office of Planning and Budget.
“We are grateful for the opportunity to recognize our dedicated first responders and public safety officials,” said Chairman Gary Blount. “Their hard work and commitment is appreciated by our entire community.”
In September, Governor Brian Kemp announced this funding opportunity for local governments to apply for on behalf of public safety officials and first responders. This program was established in recognition of the sacrifice and dedication public safety officers and first responders have shown in serving Georgians and their communities during the COVID-19 pandemic. The grant will provide a $1,000 pay supplement for all eligible sworn law enforcement officials and first responders using the State of Georgia’s American Rescue Plan Act (ARPA) funds. To be eligible employees must meet all of the following requirements:
- Work full time;
- Hold one of the listed positions that requires certification;
- Hold required certification (POST, Fire, EMS); and
- Be on the August 2021 payroll.
Camden County Human Resources has identified 111 employees from the Camden County Sheriff’s Office and 76 employees from Camden County Fire Rescue that meet all qualifications. The total grant request is for $201,305.50.
