[ARCHIVED] Camden Residents Urged to Prepare for Hurricane Irma

with the cities of Kingsland, St. Marys, and Woodbine, along with Camden County Schools, Naval Submarine Base Kings Bay Emergency Management, and the National Weather Service (NWS) to determine potential impacts of Hurricane Irma on our community.  While NWS models are a good predictor of a storm’s path, the course and strength of the storm cannot be accurately forecast until the storm is much closer to Camden County.

All Camden County residents are urged to sign-up for the CodeRED Emergency Notification System. This is a high speed Communication Service available for mass Emergency Notifications. CodeRED is critical during situations like this as a direct method of communication from Camden County EMA to your landline, cell phone, or email. TDD/TTY service is also available.  Participants will be notified in the event of emergency situations or critical community alerts.  Sign-up links for CodeRED are available here or at www.camdencountyga.gov.

“Now is the time for Camden County to get ready for Hurricane Irma,” said Chuck White, Camden County Emergency Management Specialist.  “Since the exact path of the storm is yet to be determined, we cannot know the impact, but we can prepare.”

Camden County residents are strongly encouraged to prepare now for the potential impacts of this storm. Please visit the National Hurricane Center website, http://www.nhc.noaa.gov, for the projected path and more information on Hurricane Irma.  Detailed lists on how to prepare and what should be in your Ready Kit, are available at: http://ready.ga.gov.

EMA officials continue to monitor Hurricane Irma at the Emergency Operations Center (EOC) and there are no current evacuation orders in place.  Should Camden County be required to evacuate, notifications will be sent via CodeRED.  All local residents should continue to monitor Camden County Website, Camden County EMA Facebook and Camden County EMA Twitter for updates in addition to the Camden County Information Line at 912-576-3800.
