To assist citizens with the proper placement of smoke alarms, CCFR offers a free smoke alarm installation program. Any Camden County resident can request to have two smoke alarms installed in their residence for free by Camden County Fire Rescue personnel once every ten years.
Camden County residents are encouraged to test the smoke alarms in their homes monthly and replace the smoke alarm once every ten years. Batteries should be replaced every six months, typically at the beginning and end of Daylight Saving Time. National Fire Protection Association studies show that nationwide, three out of every five home fire deaths resulted from fires in homes without a smoke alarm. Dead batteries cause almost one-quarter of all smoke alarm failures.
“Smoke alarms are one of the most efficient life safety devices a resident can have,” says CCFR Fire Safety and Prevention Coordinator Lt. Travis Swann. “Smoke alarms save lives by rapidly alerting residents to a fire on their property, allowing them to escape the fire and contact 911. This means that CCFR can arrive on the scene more quickly, giving firefighters a better opportunity to save lives and property.”
