[ARCHIVED] 26th Annual Kids Fishing Derby

From 9:00 a.m. until 12:00 p.m., children 16 years and under are invited to participate in this year’s event at the SR-110 landfill in Woodbine.

Utilizing a Georgia Department of Natural Resources (DNR) program that stocks this pond and others throughout the state to encourage children to fish, the Kids Fishing Derby is in its 26th year. Camden County landfills have abundant wildlife, including bald eagles and other animals.

A new handicap accessible dock, donated by Coastal Recycling of Jacksonville, is available for the derby. Participants need to bring fishing poles and chairs. Prizes will be awarded for the longest fish, heaviest fish, and youngest fisher. The Solid Waste Authority, along with sponsors Georgia DNR, Advanced Disposal Services, Yancey Brothers, and Buccaneers Bait and Tackle, will provide hot dogs, drinks, and bait. Please call 912-729-4099 for more information.

About the Solid Waste Authority: The Camden County Solid Waste Authority is managed as an enterprise fund, fully supported by user fees, and receives no tax payer dollars from the General Fund. The Municipal Solid Waste (MSW) Landfill, the Construction and Demolition (C & D) Landfill, and the Old Still Road Yard Waste Site are operated by the Solid Waste Authority.
