The $73,832.50 award from the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) and the Georgia Emergency Management Agency (GEMA) will be used for the purchase and installation of fixed generators to ensure the continuity of critical services during power outages.
“Although we hope to never experience another Hurricane Irma, we must plan for stronger storms,” said Camden County Emergency Management Agency (EMA) Director Chuck White. “Having fixed generators allow our essential emergency services to function during these periods of prolonged power outages.”
HMGP funding was available for Camden County as a result of the federally declared disaster area due to Hurricane Irma. The HMGP program seeks to help communities implement hazard mitigation measures following a Presidential major disaster declaration. Hazard mitigation is any action taken to reduce or eliminate long term risk to people and property from natural hazards. Including the local contribution, the total project cost is over $86,000.
